Alcoa also known as Aluminum Company of America was founded on October 1, 1888 by Charles Martin Hall and is headquartered in New York, US is world’s largest producer of aluminum products and world’s third largest producer of aluminum after Rio Tinto Alcan & Rusal. Alcoa’s products are used globally in aircraft, automobiles, commercial transportation, packaging, building and construction, oil & gas, defense and for industrial use. The company Alcoa's shares are listed and traded on the New York Stock Exchange and are an integral part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Alcoa is having its headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from where they carry out operations in over 31 countries worldwide. Alcoa is a world leader in the manufacture and organization of primary & fabricated aluminum and alumina combined. Alcoa is actively increasing & growing its contribution in all important aspects of this industry for example technology, mining, smelting, refining, fabricating, and even recycling. Aluminum and alumina contributes more than 3/4th of Alcoa’s income. Non-aluminum goods comprise of precision castings, aerospace and manufacturing fasteners.
In May 2007 Alcoa tried to takeover Alcan (former subordinate) with their hefty US $27 billion bid seeking to bring together both companies and shape the world's largest aluminum producer, but this bid was withdrawn after Alcan’s takeover by Rio Tinto in July 2007. Among Alcoa's other businesses are fastening systems, building products and Howmet Castings. The sale of the packaging unit was announced on December 21, 2007 and closed in the first quarter of 2008. Alcoa has a track record of its Operational activities in many countries such as Ghana, Iceland, United Kingdom, Australia, Unites States and Russia. The Engineered Products & Solutions are into the manufacturing and sale of titanium, aluminum and super alloy investment castings, hard alloy extrusions, forgings and fasteners, aluminum wheels, integrated aluminum structural systems and architectural extrusions and with these many major components for various sectors are designed for various sectors like aerospace, automobile, building and construction, transportation, power generation and defense markets.
