Nike is an American multinational company that is famous for its high-quality footwear, clothing, equipment and other accessories. The company’s headquarters are located near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area.
It is the world’s most leading supplier of sports shoes and clothing. It also manufactures sports equipment. Until 2017, the brand was valued at $29.6 billion.
The company was co-founded by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight on January 25, 1964, and adopted a name Blue Ribbon Sports. It officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971. The company was named after Nike which means ‘the Greek goddess of victory’. Nike products are not only marketed under its own brand but also as Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Air Jordan, Nike Blazers, Air Force 1, Nike Dunk, Air Max, Nike Skateboarding, Foamposite, Nike CR7,[8] and subsidiaries including Brand Jordan, Hurley International, and Converse. Bauer Hockey (later named Nike Bauer) was also owned by Nike from 1995 to 2008.
Apart from manufacturing and selling sportswear and equipment, the company runs several retail stores under the Niketown name. Many High profile athletes and teams are sponsored by Nike all across the world. It has a famous trademark of "Just Do It" and a Swoosh logo.
