KPN

KPN is a Dutch Mobile telecommunications and landline company. It initially began as Public telecommunication organization and is currently based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Before KPN acquired its current name, it was known as Koninklijke PTT Nederland and before that it was called Staatsbedrijf der Posterijen, Telegrafie en Telefonie (PTT) and, was publicly owned by Netherlands’ fixed line operator at the time.
KPN was able to switch to its current form at the beginning of the year 1989, when Telegrafie en Telefonie become privatized after being under control of the Dutch postal services.
In 1994 the Dutch government decided to progressively privatize KPN, a move which triggered reduction in stakes to 6.4% in 2015, this process finally came to an end in 2006 after which KPN got back its full golden share rights.
An attempt to join KPN with a telco Belgacom of Belgium failed, due to a refusal by the Belgian government in 2001, also in the same year, Spanish owned Telefonica showed its intentions of wanting to acquire KPN.
KPN experienced a major boost that almost doubled its growth in 2007, this came after it acquired Getronics N.V, an IT service company with over 22.000 workers. By 2013 KPN had 70 percent remaining stake of the Dutch telecommunication company. The América Móvil owned by Mexican Billionaire, Carlos Slim, proposed to takeover this remaining stake, but the Dutch government objected. The KPN shares presently owned by América Móvil is about 30%.
