General Electric Company also known as GE is an American multinational conglomerate business incorporated in Schenectady, New York are pioneer in product manufacturing in industrial Conglomerates. General Eeactric company was founded by Thomas A. Edison and is headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut, United States. General Electric Company having a market capitalization of approximately $233.1 Billion and generating revenue of US$ 147.3 billion is one of the biggest companies in its industry. GE stocks are traded over New York Stock Exchange and are an integral part of Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 Components.
 
General Electric Company provides technology and financial services that build up and manufactures goods for the generation, transmission, supply, control and consumption of electricity. GE products and services also comprise of aircraft engines, power generation, water processing, security technology, medical imaging, financing for business & consumer, media content and industrial goods. General Electric Company operates through 4 segments: Energy, Technology Infrastructure, Capital Finance and Consumer & Industrial. The Energy segment produces equipments and enhances products and technologies that control resources such as wind, oil, gas and water. Energy segment serves power for production, industries, government and other customers globally with products and services linked with energy production, distribution and management. This segment as a part of renewable energy portfolio presented wind turbines. The Technology Infrastructure segment provides technology solutions for customers in various industries. The Consumer & Industrial segment provide improvement of differentiated goods such as energy efficient solutions for both consumers and businesses and help in developments of products comprise of appliances and subsets of lighting products are first and foremost directed to consumer applications, while other solutions are directed towards commercial and industrial applications. The GE Capital Finance segment offers services that deal in commercial, personal & home loans and leases, fleet managing, financial programs, credit cards and other financial services. It provides its universal services to all businesses.
 
In the year 2011, GE was ranked as 6th largest company amongst the Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. by gross revenue as well as the 14th most profitable company. On the other hand GE is at present listed as 3rd largest company in the world among the Forbes Global 2000. Talking about other rankings for the year 20122 & 2012,  GE was as no. 7 company for leaders & No. 15 most admired company by Fortune, and no. 5 best international brand by Interbrand, No. 63 green company by Newsweek, and No. 19 most innovative company  by Fast Company.

General Electric is a USA based multinational corporation which was incorporated in New York City. The company’s headquarters are located in Boston, USA. As to 2018, the company’s operations extended through various segments, including healthcare, transportation, additive, oil and gas, aviation, lighting and many others.

Formation of the company


The company was founded through the merger of Edison General Electric Company of Schenectady, New York, and Thomson-Houston Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts, The functioning of both plants continued under the General Electric banner until present. The incorporation of the company took place in New York City. The Schenectady plant was used as a headquarter for many years. During the same time period, the formation of Canadian General Electric, the company’s Canadian counterpart, took place.

International Ranking of the company

General Electric was ranked 13th on the Fortune 500 list in 2017 with regard to revenue generation. It was listed as the 14th most profitable company on the Fortune 20 in the year 2011. In 2012, the company was the fourth largest company on the Forbes Global 2000, Two of the company’s employees named Irving Langmuir (in 1932) and Ivar Giaever (in 1973) have been given the Nobel Prize.
