The company goes back to the year 1801, more than 200 years ago, when Leo Michielsen started a grocery shop dealing in colonial merchandize. It was only at the turn of the century, around the year 1900, that the enterprise decided to develop a coffee roasting business under the Miko brand name as its main activity. At present Miko owns and manages coffee service subsidiaries in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Miko in Belgium based coffee service provider that has served as a B2B coffee industry for the past 200 years, primarily engaged in the production and distribution of coffee. The company also serves the plastic packaging and its products services for the last 35 years of involvement. The main headquarter of the company is situated in Turnhout, Belgium with the foundation of the company being laid down back in the year of 1801 by Leo Michielsen, as to start a grocery-shop to deal in the colonial merchandising. In 1900 only, the company initially laid down and decided to convert it into the Miko brand making coffee as the prime activity of the firm.

One of the key people responsible for handling the overall business of the company is Frans Van Tilborg, Managing Director of the group and the total number of working strength of the company have been estimated to be 700 employees (as per the data of 2012). The primary marketing regions of the company include UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Belgium and then exportation of the product to other places all over the world which counts to be around 30 countries.

The counting of the company is being done with the listing of stock exchange of Brussels, listed in the year of 1998 and since the trading and shares of it are followed on its index. As long as revenue generation of the company is being considered, the estimation of 138 million EUR as the overall turn-over is made. Around 50.92 % of the shares have been invested on the coffee division of the company and 49.08 % to the plastics division. The centralization of the overall work relates selecting and purchasing of raw-coffee, roasting and packaging along with the quality controlling and Research & Development for all other stuff and operation is being done by the company itself. After all this procedure, exportation of the products of coffee to all other parts of the world is carried out by the company.


Whole Bean Coffee is the main product of the company and this main product is roasted and manufactured at many locations of the companies worldwide with the availability of equipments for coffee-making also being produced at these locations. The two main operations of the company i.e. coffee servicing (primary) and plastic packaging (secondary) are handled by the respective divisions on an independent basis not having any interference of each other. Along with all this, coffee filtering and dispensing system's knowledge base has also been developed by the company to cope up with the technological advancements in the industry.

The sectors which are served with the coffee production includes out of home markets as caterer’s industry, businesses and offices while the plastic segments are mainly meant for packaging related to foods and cosmetics companies. MikoPac, Mepaco, Miko Coffee Service are some of the auxiliary units developed under the group. The main marketing areas for the products are Belgium, France, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia and Sweden.
