The company cherishes its rich heritage, from 1934 after the company was recognized in Poperinge, Belgium by Lucien De Puydt. The company concentrated on the assembly of radios with parts from the U.S. After that Barco radios were a big hit and marks in augmented turnover. This allows companies to make the needed investments to pick up with an uprising in communication. The first diversification venture was the expansion of an automatic control system for a company of weaving looms. Second diversification project was when company supplies the Belgian national broadcasting station with studio monitors in conformance with the most severe standards. The technical excellence of these systems catch the attention of customers from all over the world and later a global network of distributors is set up. Later Barco divided itself into two separate entities, Barco Electronic managing consumer electronics and Barco Industries managing high tech electronics for visualization and process control. There were several other industrial projects as well which were having a focus on high tech electronics. Barco Electronic and Barco Industries quoted on the Brussels Stock Exchange in the year 1986 and 1987 respectively.
Barco Electronic and Barco Industries merge itself into a sole global electronics group with universal ambitions. Barco achieved the status of a truly global company, with acquisitions and subsidiaries in many countries later Barco was listed on the BEL-20 index of the Brussels Stock Exchange. Barco achieved the status of Next 150 company. The Barco group, not including the BarcoNet, separated in the second half of 2000 & comprehended a turnover of 751 Million Euro. In the year 2011, XDC CineStore, Belgium based developer of graphical user interfaces and theatre organization system for the digital cinema business, joins hands with Barco. This acquirement fits within Barco's broader approach to bunch up its worth from the digital projection provider by supplier of total cinema visualization services. In this year only the Company reported to pass the sales mark of 1 Billion Euro for the first time.
Barco acquired JAOtech to widen its services with point-of-care solutions and linked software permit Barco to put up a well-built spot in this segment in the healthcare market. Barco also acquires the assets of IP Video Systems (IPVS) which is a California based leader in networked visualization services. This acquisition results in making the company's portfolio stronger in a variety of markets - together with healthcare, control rooms, simulation & training, and tele-collaboration.
