Constellation Brands to build $1.3B brewery in southeastern Mexico

  • Constellation Brands (STZ) has reached an agreement with the Mexican government to build a $1.3B brewery in southeastern Mexico, according to a WSJ report.
  • The new plans come after the Mexican government forced Constellation to close a nearly completed brewery in the border city of Mexicali. City residents voted against the project due to water overuse concerns in early 2020. The company recognized a loss of $700M due to the closure.
  • The exact location of the new brewery isn't yet known, but sources say that the Corona and Modelo-maker is considering a spot near the port of Coatzacoalcos, which would allow the company to easily export its beers to the U.S by sea. However, a location in the underdeveloped Southeast far from the U.S. means Constellation will likely face higher costs.

For this year the company from Victor could earn a total revenue around 8.7 billion USD. This is according to the average of the analysts' estimates. This is slightly more than 2021's revenue of 8.61 billion USD.
