Semi-conductor company Advanced Micro Devices , Inc (AMD) suffered a decline in stock prices earlier this month following Microsoft ’s decision to postpone the issuance of updates aimed at correcting security faults spotted in the bombshell Specter and Meltdown report. Bill Gates-owned firm suspended updates after receiving complaints from AMD chip users who said that the new tiny part ruined their machines.
Over the last three months, AMD shared dropped to more than 8.8 percent. The company has some reasons to be optimistic in 2018. The Spectre and Meltdown security flaws mostly impact Intel -based chips, which can benefit AMD.
Spectre flaws can affect AMD chips. But a study shows that hackers are no longer keen on Spectre flaws due to a prolonged process to crack a computer using this flaw. Also, that research reveals that patches to repair Meltdown flaw slow down device propels by 30 percent, enabling AMD to take advantage of this situation.
AMD released the consumer version of Ryzen Mobile in the last quarter of 2017. The chips were available with select device OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) during the holiday period.
AMD investors are expecting more laptops are powered by the company’s Ryzen chips to enter the market this year. AMD plans to launch chips for both gaming and business purposes.
AMD's new generation of processors are expected to support a higher core count and enhance memory clock speeds as well as save power consumption.
