Baidu enters freight market with smart new energy heavy-duty truck

  • Baidu (BIDU) unveils a smart new energy heavy-duty truck named Xingtu at its subsidiary Deepway. The truck, which has computing power of more than 500 TOPS and ultra-long-distance sensing capabilities of more than 1 kilometer, marks Baidu 's entry into the multi-trillion dollar global freight market.
  • The Xingtu runs on Baidu 's AI technology stack and the Baidu Apollo Group autonomous driving platform, enabling it to reach L3 self-driving on high-speed freight routes and achieve L4 sometime between 2024 and 2026. Level 3 autonomous vehicles are able to sense the environment to make informed decisions, but still require the driver to remain alert and human override for some actions. Level 4 vehicles do not require human interaction unless there is a system failure.
  • "We aim to create value in real-life scenarios such as transporting people, delivery and life services. This new generation of vehicle is by no means just a modified truck - it's a robot truck," said Yunpeng Wang, vice president of autonomous driving.
  • Baidu has been developing Apollo Group autonomous driving since 2013 and recently began publicly testing its Apollo Group Go robotaxi platform in China.

Over the current book year the total revenue from the company in Beijing will be 126.47 billion SEK (consensus estimates). This is rather significant more than 2021's revenue of 107.07 billion SEK.
