Sony closes on $1.175 billion Crunchyroll purchase from AT&T

  • Sony's Funimation (NYSE:SONY) has closed on its $1.175 billion acquisition of anime streaming service Crunchyroll from AT&T (NYSE:T).
  • That's paid in cash, and AT&T will throw that money on its debt-reduction pile - part of an ongoing plan to bring net debt-to-adjusted EBITDA below 2.5x by the end of 2023.
  • They reached the deal last December, after negotiations where AT&T was reportedly seeking $1.5 billion.
  • Crunchyroll has 5 million SVOD subscribers, and serves 120 million registered users across 200 countries, with features including ad-supported video on demand, mobile games, manga, events merchandise and distribution.
  • "Anime is a rapidly growing medium that enthralls and inspires emotion among audiences around the globe," says Sony Chairman/CEO Kenichiro Yoshida. "The alignment of Crunchyroll and Funimation will enable us to get even closer to the creators and fans who are the heart of the anime community."

    Over the current book year the company from Dallas's total revenue could be around 175.56 billion USD (consensus estimates). This is slightly more than 2021's revenue of 171.76 billion USD.

    The analysts expect for 2021 a net profit of 23.81 billion USD. The majority of the analysts expects for this year a profit per share of 3.37 USD. So the price/earnings-ratio equals 8.15.
