Uber Freight acquiring Transplace for $2.25B, accelerating profitability

  • Uber (NYSE:UBER) Freight is acquiring transportation management software and logistics company Transplace from private equity firm TPG for $2.25B, including up to $750M in Uber stock and the remainder in cash.
  • The company says the transaction will "create an industry-leading Freight Technology Operating System to enable a comprehensive end-to-end shipper-to-carrier solution, unlocking new levels of efficiency and service."
  • TPG acquired Transplace from Greenbriar Equity Group in a roughly $1B deal in 2017.
  • Uber says the acquisition is expected to accelerate Uber Freight's path to profitability with the segment expecting to break even on an adjusted EBITDA basis by the end of 2022.
  • Uber has worked to deepen its diversification as the pandemic slashed ride-hail demand. Earlier this week, Uber expanded its grocery delivery offering.

    For this year the company, based in San Francisco revenue will be around 15.88 billion USD. This is according to the average of the analysts' estimates. This is hugely more than 2021's revenue of 11.14 billion USD.

    The analysts expect for 2021 a net loss of 2.39 billion USD. According to most of the analysts the company will have a loss per share for this book year of 1.3 USD. The price-earnings-ratio equals -33.13.

    For this year analysts don't expect the company to pay a dividend. The average dividend yield of the support companies is a relatively high 1.68 percent.
