The company goes back to the year 1801, more than 200 years ago, when Leo Michielsen started a grocery shop dealing in colonial merchandize. It was only at the turn of the century, around the year 1900, that the enterprise decided to develop a coffee roasting business under the Miko brand name as its main activity. At present Miko owns and manages coffee service subsidiaries in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Whole Bean Coffee is the main product of the company and this main product is roasted and manufactured at many locations of the companies worldwide with the availability of equipments for coffee-making also being produced at these locations. The two main operations of the company i.e. coffee servicing (primary) and plastic packaging (secondary) are handled by the respective divisions on an independent basis not having any interference of each other. Along with all this, coffee filtering and dispensing system's knowledge base has also been developed by the company to cope up with the technological advancements in the industry.
The sectors which are served with the coffee production includes out of home markets as caterer’s industry, businesses and offices while the plastic segments are mainly meant for packaging related to foods and cosmetics companies. MikoPac, Mepaco, Miko Coffee Service are some of the auxiliary units developed under the group. The main marketing areas for the products are Belgium, France, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia and Sweden.
