AKZO NOBEL activities


This Dutch based multinational company mostly deals in the production of paints, coatings and specific chemicals used by consumers all over the world. Akzo Nobel went through of several mergers that happened around 17th century and which lead to its formation in 2008. The first collaboration between the milestone mergers and divestments formed AKZO in 1969, the further merger between Akzo and Nobel industries prompted formation of Akzo Nobel in 1994. Finally, the link between Akzo and Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) lead to the creation of the present Akzo Nobel. The company was able to change its brand after the buying of ICI which was formerly a British Chemical making company in the beginning of 2008.
Akzo Nobel's main offices are found in Amsterdam and operates in over 80 countries. The company’s employees is approximated to be 46.000. In the year 2016 alone, Akzo Nobel sales had already hit the EUR 14.2 billion mark.
Towards the end of 2017, Akzo Nobel expressed its interest of wanting to combine with Axalta Coating Systems, one its competitors. The chemical business of Akzo Nobel was bought by Carlyle and GIC, a private equity funds at price of $10.1bn, this acquisition deal was completed at the beginning of October 2018. The company still continues as Akzo Nobel with its main operation centered in paints and coatings.
